This 2,896-square-mile EMU is located along the Montana-Idaho border in northwestern Montana. Although the majority of elk use is on U. S. Forest Service (USFS) lands, elk also utilize private lands through the year.

Beginning where the Idaho/Montana State line intersects the south shore of the Cabinet Gorge Reservoir, then southeasterly along said shore to where the power-lines cross the reservoir in Section 5, Township 26 N, Range 33 W, then westerly along said power-lines to USFS Road 2229 (Lower River Road), then southerly along said road to the Upper River County Road, then westerly along said road to Elk Creek, then southwesterly along said creek to the Elk Creek Road at Pew Gulch in Section 16, Township 26 N, Range 34 W, then northeasterly and northerly up said road to USFS Road 2295, then westerly up said road to the Idaho/Montana State Line, then northerly up said line to where the Idaho/Montana State Line intersects the south shore of the Cabinet Gorge Reservoir, the point of beginning.
